Dr. Schiffenhaus’s role as an undergraduate was to verify the genetic presence of cancer patient plasma proteins in established tumor cell lines.
After graduating, Dr. Schiffenhaus stayed at Arizona State University to pursue a PhD in Molecular and Cellular Biology and continuing the cancer bio-marker research. The nature of Dr. Schiffenhaus’s research switched to in-depth characterization of cancer specific proteins using immunoassays and MALDI-TOF Mass Spectrometry. Dr. Schiffenhaus passed his comprehensive exam and earned a MS in Molecular and Cellular Biology. Dr. Schiffenhaus decided to leave the PhD program with a Masters to pursue his passion for clinical care.
During his time in graduate school, Dr. Schiffenhaus had taken the medical admissions test – MCAT – and scored quite high such that he was invited to teach MCAT prep for The Princeton Review. Dr. Schiffenhaus taught Biology, Biochemistry, Molecular Biology, Genetics, Physiology, and test taking strategies to students preparing to take the MCAT. It was here Dr. Schiffenhaus discovered his passion for teaching, especially helping make complex topics relatable and understandable – a passion he still has to this day. Dr. Schiffenhaus left the PhD program with a Masters in the winter so before starting another educational program he taught physical science and biology to freshman and sophomores for one semester at St. Mary’s High School in downtown Phoenix. Biomimetic Dentistry is a modern, evidence based, minimally invasive approach to dentistry – explained in more detail here.
After becoming a practice owner Dr. Schiffenhaus was able to pursue more education and mastery in Biomimetic Dentistry. He has completed Master Level training in Biomimetics from Dr. David Alleman Sr. & Jr. whom continue to be close mentors. Dr. Schiffenhaus has also received training & mentoring from Dr. Simone Deliperi another founder of the Biomimetic Dentistry movement. Dr. Schiffenhaus is an accredited member of the academy of biomimetic dentistry. In 2020, Dr. Schiffenhaus founded The BAARD Institute to facilitate both online and in person Biomimetic & Advanced Adhesive training for dentists. Dr. Schiffenhaus is a Key Opinion Leader & Lecturer for the renowned Kuraray Noritake as well as a Key Opinion Leader & Product Tester for many other companies. Dr. Schiffenhaus began posting his work on dental social a few years ago and developed quite a following.
